Ready, Set, Walk!

I have a friend who works at Nike. She talked me into participating in an Oregon tradition, the hood to coast race. The largest relay race in North America, its stretches 197 miles from the top of Oregon's Mt. Hood, down to the Pacific Ocean, in Seaside, Oregon. Over 12,000 runners show up to experience this annual event, now in its 23rd year.

There is a sister event on the same day called the Porltand to Coast relay walk. That is what I am going to be in. You're on a team of I believe 12 people. Your team members take turns walking in 4-mile sprints. This happens for approx. 125 miles from downtown Portland to the ocean. So each person goes more than one leg. I hear that some of the terrain is pretty hairy. But, there is a giant party at the end of the race with tons of booze and thousands of people. And my team is sponsored by Nike, so I'll probably get some free stuff. The race isn't until the end of August, so I have tons of time to train. I don't think I have ever walked that far in one day.

That's even something I'd consider doing...sounds fun! Is it for a cause?? Of course, my motivation to keep moving would be the party at the end. Do you have to walk all crazy or can you just walk normal?? If I had to do that weird speed walk thing, I wouldn't do it.

That's so funny, because I totally asked if it was the weird speed walking. It's not, it's regular old walking. But fast. My incentive will be the beach boozing at the end.

That does sound like fun. At least you have a goal that you are walking towards. Beer!
