Grub is Good

This morning my husband & I & a couple of friends went out to breakfast. We found this great spot in the neighborhood called Bertie Lou's. When we saw the "Willamette Week Cheap Eats" sticker on the door, we knew we had hit gold. The potatoes are sooo tasty. For $5 I had 2 eggs, home fries and a big, tasty biscuit. Plus, their menu has some really funny stuff on it. I can't remember the specifics, but if you're in the Sellwood area, you need to check it out. You'll probably have to stand outside & wait for a table. Trust me, it's worth the wait. Here's what Wilammette Week had to say:

Bertie lou's cafe
8051 SE 17th Ave., 239-1177. 7 am-2 pm daily, weekends breakfast-only.
Expect a light topping of whimsy on your waffle at Bertie Lou's, a cheery Sellwood mainstay. Standard breakfast and lunch offerings get a just-'cause twist here. The Croissant Benedict ($6.25), for instance, brings out a new side of the sinful standby, and there's an eggplant version for the veggers. The menu even tweaks the patrons: The hilariously scathing rant on tipping practices is itself worth leaving an extra 10 percent on the table. If you manage to snag one of the outdoor tables on a sunny morning, make a note to buy a lottery ticket later--it's gonna be a good day. (IG)
